MY SL EXPERIENCE AFTER EIGHT MONTHS

If I take a look around me, I would claim I am living a real Second Life. I would have never thought about that a year ago. Whenever I am in SL, I forget about my FIRST LIFE.
After doing the activities in EXPLORING ACTIVE AND OTHER LEARNING APPROACHES, I am exhausted and happy at the same time. But it has been hard.
My first successful and unsuccesful story started when I had to prepare the exhibition tool. I started to choose a tool but when I went to the MUVEnation Island that tool was alredy done. This happened me twice. At the end I found a wonderful tool called INTERWRITE which was to prepare TEST for pupils and you could assess them. It is a wonderful tool. But it was horrible when I went to XLstreet trying to buy the tool. Horrible! I realised my English was horrible. I didn't understand the rules I had to follow. But after so so many hours I got it. It was wonderful. Ere helped me with the photo and the preparation of the exhibition. I was so excited with my exhibition. But suddenly, the story was sad when I could see that my tool had disappeared from the exhibition. Who had stolen it? That was my question. A never answered question.

My second successful and unsuccesful story started after the exhibition. I received a Holodeck but I damaged it. HORRIBLE!! I was the worst student in MUVEnation. Luckily, Ere and Paz tried to do their best to give it new one. At first, it seemed impossible. They told me it was to expensive and so on. But Paz tried to do her best again and Locki (who I don't know and who I don't know who to say thanks) gave me a new HOLODECK. While everything happened, I tried to build everything using BUDDY BUILDER which was also funny. I took some videos from YOUTUBE and I tried to build. I learnt more. Once I got the new Holodeck I forgot about Buddy Builder because I really wanted to know what exactly was HOLODECK. I was excited but extremelly worried at the same time. I will never forget when I met Ere and she was giving me the orders. I was so so nervous that I felt like a child who starts walking. I followed Ere orders but we didn't get it. I followed Ere orders but I was reading at the same time the photocopies prepared on Holodeck. We didn't success. But then I got again the tutorial about Holodeck and I worked on my own. I sometimes tried it and it was very successful. Then I prepare the scene. You can see it on my platform. I had some problems but I succeded. However I had a wall in the middle, which I couldn't enter because I was not allowed. However I also liked my Holodeck without the wall.

My last successful story was my lovely story. You can see my sun!!!!! since I am called SUNflower!! I enjoyed it... and the best thing is that I did it on my own.

SUNFLOWER EXPERIENCE

Once upon a time, there was a girl called Sunflower Gurbux who was doing a course on SL. She was happy because she had learnt a lot but she was sad because she did not have enough time to spend on SL. She felt quite stupid, when she had to prepare a workshop. "Oh my God, what I am going to do, I am extremelly bad in everything" "Horrrible" she thought. Suddenly she thought she should have to leave the course. Otherwise, the two wonderful teachers told her to be brave. Louise (one of the teachers) advised me Sunflower to do a CONTEST. So, Sunflower started to attend contest... It was horrible, she even got up at 4 o'clock am (at night) and she attended 2 contests. Sunflower started to prepare a contest. She wanted to prepare some T-shirt but she didn't money and she was poor. She wanted to prepare some Gifts for the contest...and here it started HER NEW IDEA. She could do a workshop on GIFTS/PRESENTS.

Suddenly, she spent hours and hours trying to build presents and her teachers helped her a lot. But she wanted to have everything well-prepared. Then, the problem was that she didn't have peers. Luckly, her friend, Azu, told her she would attend. That was lovely and also the teacher would attend too. LOVELY!!!

Thus, Sunflower decided to do the workshop on Thursday 19th February 2009 on Muvenation island in SANDBOX. Sunflower organized everything, she prepared some rugs, some chairs and some presents to give to the attendants. It was quite nice. Everything was so green!!!!

However, Sunflower was quite sad because she only had three students on the workshop. There were many people near but only three students. One was Azu and the others were the two teacher. But at least, they were there supporting me. I appreaciate that.

After some days, after some searching and after assiting different types of workshop and after some time talking to my mentors (Louise and Erena), I have decided I am going to prepare a QUIZ about MUVENATION.

REFLECTION

I took me quite a lot of time planning my workshop.

I chose the idea many times, because it is not easy to choose what one wants to do.

I suppose it will take about 45 minutes. No more than that.

WORKSHOPS REFLECTION
On 1 February, Azu and me went to a workshop together. It was very funny in my opinion. It is better to be two than to be alone. Although I was not able to finish my bench because I am a very bad builder, Azu did a very nice job!!! I think that it is better to have SL in English, that was one of the reasons I couldn't find everything, and I did everything slowlier than the others. Then I was tired... but I waited there... I sat on Azu's bench. It was quite comfortable...

I think they say it is for beginners but at least you must be quite good, otherwise you do not follow.

Well in general, I found all the workshops good, but I was tired in two of them because I couldn't follow the class very well, because of the english and my little knowledge of building. I liked the philosophical workshop because I didn't have to do anything special.

M2: Activity 1: Valentine Garden Bench

Workshop design: planning and preparation
The teacher did a nice introduction, the class was for 20 people and we had to build a bench, although I couldn't because I am quite stupid with these tools. I felt quite stupid in fact. Now I understand my students :-)
It was quite organised, we could ask questions to the teacher, he gave us instructions, notecards, etc.

Workshop implementation: delivery of instruction.
The tutor basically gave us instructions, and we had to follow but he was very clear and we could ask question. My problem was that I was very slow.
He sent us some tools. In general I think that the delivery of instructions was great.

Implementation of workshop: recall and transfer of learning.
It was good, he explained us other sessions he is going to do.

Implementation of workshop: follow up and evaluation.
There was not feedback, but you could ask him as many question as you wanted.

M2: Activity 1: NCI Class Creation

Workshop design: planning and preparation
On 23rd January, after being in the first workshop, I attended a second workshop. It was NCI Class Creation. There were many, many people but I didn't like a lot because the topic was not interesting in my opinion. However, the instructor had everything well-prepared, but the explanation was to quick and it would have been nice if I could have tried everything he was explaining. He showed different ways to move around SL but it was just theory and then you could ask for doubts.

I would have prefered: theory + practise + doubts, new theory + practise + doubts... but I understand that there were too many people there.

Workshop implementation: delivery of instruction
On 23rd January, after being in the first workshop, I attended a second workshop. It was NCI Class Creation. This class was good but I didn't like the topic a lot, moreover there were many people and it was sometimes difficult to follow the conversation when everybody was asking questions. However the teacher did a good introduction of the course.

In both workshops I think the teachers explained everything very well. However, the second workshop needed practise and we didn't practise anything. Thus, now I do not remember anything...

At the end of the class there was feedback, we could ask questions, doubts, etc. The problem was that there were many people and everybody was talking at the same time.

M2: Activity 1: Law of Attraction Class

Workshop design: planning and preparation
On 23rd January I attended to Law of Attraction Class. There were just 3 people but I loved it because it was very easy to follow and to understand. So planning was very good and preparation was quite good too. I asked the tutor the main objectives and I think he/she really got them. The tutor was talking about the emotional scale and s/he gave us many information: notecards, webpages, etc.

We had a type of blackboard to follow what was she explained and we could also stop and ask her doubts and give our opinion.

Workshop implementation: delivery of instruction
I think the teacher made a very good introduction of the way it would be, moreover she had a clear blackboard and she followed that. Her speech was good and at the end of each idea she asked our opinion. In fact, we were only 2. So it was easier.

In fact there were no recapitulation, she only asked as if everything was understood.

Implementation of the workshop: follow up and evaluation
There was assessment and feedback at the end of the workshop. Moreover, we could ask questions while we were listening to them.

COLLABORATIONS

Well sometimes it was not so easy to define objective and criteria. We were a group but only 3 of us appeared. Moreover, not all of us were able to attend all the times.

We met several times and we worked. Xabier was one of the best, he was very well-organized and he helped us a lot. But Azu is great too. My problem was that I was leaving on 19th and I was arriving on 23rd. So I was quite out of work. But at the end I could do everything.

I loved working with Azu and Xabier. But the problem is the timetables... I don't have so much time to meet people and spend all the days on-line. We are working and collaboration in groups takes a lot of time. Today we have spend 4 hours together, and that is a lot. And most of the days was like that. Can you imagine how many hours did we spend in this section 3? A lot, more and more than what you told us, although I have learnt a lot.

I feel quite well, and it has been great to work with them.

In your blog, describe your experience playing with your avatar’s appearance: do you feel comfortable with your new appearance or is it going to take more work – share your reflections on this. How do you feel the changes you made to your avatar have affected your digital identity? How do you think your appearance affects your interactions with others and their interactions with you?

My first experience was starting to change my own appearance, that part was quite easy and funny.
Then GO SHOPPING!!! I do not like going shopping but I love shopping from my house. So I had quite fun, although it was difficult for me to understand how it worked. I had to try to ask and ask a lot to other people who I found there. First of all I went to the market where I did not understand anything. Later I moved around other places and I started to find other people and ask. Most of them were very nice to me, and they explained that to me.

I love the way my avatar looks although I still want to change my wig. I would like to have a better wig. I have long curly hair since I was 1 year old and I look for one of them. I created the one I am wearing now, but I do not like it a lot. Well, I will go on looking for more and buying more. I find it very funny.

I think I do not look like my avatar because I do not wear fashionable clothes. I always were comfortable clothes. Moreover, I practise sport and I usually wear sport clothes. Thus I think my avatar looks different, maybe because I would like to dress very fashion but I do not have time.

I hope to look quite nice to others, though I know everybody is different. For me the appearance is not important... being kind is more important to me!!

Module 1 My first experience in SL

Downloading the programme I had not problems, but I had problems to create my appearance, I end up in that way!!!

I could say, that my first feeling in SL was horrible. I did not understand anything.

But once I tried to move and to fly, it was funnier, but I have never been able to sit anywhere. I tried to talk to two people but only one answered me. :-(

I still find it quite difficult, I suppose I need more experience. I have been travelling around. I went to Barcelona, la plaça del pi. It was interesting, I met there a person, but something happened to my computer but I couldn't answer him. I was suddendly disconnecte.

Later, I tried to enter again, I wanted to go to MUVEnation ISLAND, but I couldn't. Is it not existing yet? What do I have to do to go to MUVEnation ISLAND?

Well my main objective is to learn soon to be on Second life and to have nicer adventures.

A)I am your friend. I don’t work in education. You are talking to me about the idea that we all learn from each other, in all kinds of contexts, and that this can often be richer than more formal classroom based learning. I am sceptical. Tell me about an informal learning experience you have had online in which collaboration was involved, show me a concrete example to help me to see what you mean.
In our daily live we all learn from our environment. Therefore our students also learn more when they share their knowledge. Realia is essential in our classes. In fact, I know that my students have learnt something when they are able to explain that to their partners.

In fact, collaboration is necessary in order to achieve whatever we want. All the monuments has been built in collaboration, everything in our world is built in collaborations. Even Ancient civilizations built big Empires because they worked in a collaborative way!!

The understanding of the word collaboration is necessary when we talk about Web 2.0. In school I have used this tool. At the moment I am using a blog (blogmeister). I have a blog and my students have their own blog too. They are doing some activities and they post them on the blog, they share information, they write comments on each other blog and I can control the comments since blogmeister allows me to do that.

B) We all explore new technologies, some grab our attention more than others, some seem revolutionary, others simply bore us. Tell us about that new tool, or set of tools, you have just discovered that really excites you, talk about the potential it has to change your work. What do you want to do with it?

A new tool? Well there are so many tools that I have discovered. In fact, I discover new tools almost everyday. But not all of them can be applied to my classes. One I really love are podcast (podomatic). I think that my students can record and practise orally, an aspect that we do not do a lot in the class. Then they can put it on their blog.

C) Do you see yourself as a pioneer? Do you think you are more innovative than others in your organisation? Do you think your organisation is lagging behind? Tell us how you feel about this?

I do not see myself as a pioneer, the only thing is that I love trying new things in my classes. I love learning new activities to do in my classes so that I can improve them. However it is not easy because in my school there are not enough tools to do it easily. Moreover, most of the other teachers hate new technologies. Otherwise I love them and I will go on trying them in my classes.
